Jürgen Paas / Hanna Roeckle – Changing Focus

Exhibition opening Friday, October 10, 2025, 7 p.m.
Exhibition runs until November 22, 2025.

Hanna Roeckle’s works stand both figuratively and literally between painting and sculpture. They are based on spatial structures and serial systems, whose constructive clarity enters into a multi-voiced dialogue with the sensual flow of the artist’s color combinations. Art and research are inextricably linked in this oeuvre, flowing into a broad spectrum of insights from geometry and physics, systems theory, history, design, and architecture.
Jürgen Paas also occupies a dual position between painting and sculpture. He understands his wall objects and reliefs as paintings with industrially manufactured materials, particularly plastic strips in every imaginable RAL color, but also foils, Plexiglas panels, and aluminum shafts. His works are often modular in design, meaning the individual colors of a work are not definitively fixed and thus theoretically interchangeable, and each individual work expands with other works from the same series to form a larger composite.

For Jürgen Paas, as for Hanna Roeckle, the viewer’s perspective plays an important role in understanding the works: Every movement in front of the work changes it and opens up a new perspective on color, form, and structure. Two viewers looking at the same work simultaneously will therefore always have very different impressions of it. This is an invitation to dialogue about the work, which is inherent in both artists.
