Exhibition series in vitro – Art in the Glass Pavilion.

Düsseldorf artist Martin Schwenk presents a new installation titled “Disposing,” conceived specifically for the glass pavilion in Grugapark. Drainage channels crisscross the space and merge into photographic miniatures that appear like reminiscences from times gone by. Thus, on the one hand, disposal as a necessary part of our everyday lives becomes an artistic motif, but on the other hand, disposal on a spiritual level also becomes a focus, namely when we keep our memories alive in our minds, prioritize them, or even completely suppress certain memories. In this reading, Martin Schwenk’s installation becomes a parable about our culture of remembrance.

Martin Schwenk (* 1960 in Bonn) is a German sculptor, installation artist, and draftsman. He studied from 1981 to 1988 at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, where he was a master student of Günther Uecker. Schwenk has been a professor of sculpture at the Mainz University of Art and Design since 2011.
